Biography
Luca Martino. Born in Campobasso, Molise, on November 2, 2002. Cursed with an unbridled, ever-growing obsession with photography. It was born from the fascination the photographic medium holds: its power to transform, rewrite, uncover and elevate the ordinary into the extraordinary. I am captivated by its ability to reveal detail, and by the way a photographer can choose to disclose, conceal or subvert these elements according to their own vision. I favor black and white of the highest contrast, which lets me concentrate on the fundamental structures of the image: the lines, the volumes, the light and the shadow. This is how I let the purity of composition and form emerge, creating an intense dialogue between light and dark, presence and absence. In this essential space I find the strength to portray my subjects without distraction, and to bring into focus what truly matters.
Artist Statement
For me, photographing is an act of choice, of taking a stance. Every frame is the result of a critical, conscious gaze, of a continuous dialogue between what I see and what I feel. My approach is purely artistic, and each image reflects not only the subject, but also the way I read it, and give it back to the viewer.
